When you use any type of baby carrier or sling please ensure that your child is positioned safely. This video illustrates the T.I.C.K.S checklist that you can use every time you carry your baby to make sure they are safe.
Why are both great to have over Autumn and Winter? Well, the cotton gauze are light and easy to use, so great if you’re new to babywearing. They are also very quick drying, so whether you’re caught in the rain or would like to wash and dry your wrap in the shortest amount of time possible then you really can’t go wrong!
If you’ve never felt the microfleece baby slings in person then you may be forgiven for wondering what all the fuss is about. But when you actually feel the wonderfully soft, light fabric, you’ll know exactly why so many new mums and dads want to snuggle up with their newborn baby in their fleece babysling. Like the cotton gauze, they are perfect for new babywearers, and are soft and ready to use straight out of the packet.
So if you’re looking for that first baby sling, buy one of each and save with our bundle price as with this weather you’ll always be glad you have a spare! 2 great wraparound baby slings that will last from newborn until toddlerhood for just £69!
Now, all you have to do is choose from our gorgeous colours…
We ran a competition on our Facebook page recently where the lucky winner chose a limited edition flag wrap to wear to the Olympics. Well, Jenny Hodgson won and happily shared a couple of photos of her and her gorgeous baby at the Olympic Park. She chose to support Team GB in a Summer Sky gauze wrap with Union Jack.
She says, “I got lots of positive comments about the sling and some people were even taking photos of me! Thanks so much.”
She kindly sent us a couple of pictures to share and had this to say about her experience.
“Hi, I’ve attached a couple of pics from our visit to the Olympic Stadium yesterday to watch the Athletics. My sling got lots of attention with loads of people looking at it as we walked around the Olympic Park – lots of thumbs up and smiles too. It was perfect and Léonie even managed to fall asleep in it with all the roar of the crowd in the stadium! Thanks, Emma”
This summer keep you and your baby cool in a Calin Bleu cotton gauze wraparound baby carrier. Enter our competition and you can win one! We’ll choose our favourite by 1 September and if you’re the lucky winner you can choose a free wrap!
So if you’d like to carry your baby in comfort and style just head over to our Facebook page to enter the competition. To be eligible you need tickets to attend the Olympic games.
We’ll do a random draw on 15th July so you have plenty of time to choose your wrap colour and pick your flag. Choose from the Union Jack, the English, Scottish, Welsh or Irish flag.
It’ll also give you a chance to wash and wear it before the big day! Remember that you can reverse the wrap when you don’t feel like wearing it with the flag on display. As part of the competition we’d love the winner to send us some photos of them and their baby at the Games in the wrap too:-)

I knew from before my first daughter was born that I would need a sling – I do not drive a car and I hoped a sling would help us to get around easily on buses and trains. I love to do research, so I read everything I could find about slings and selected a stretchy wrap for carrying her. It was very comfortable, and if my eldest had been a different personality I would probably have stopped there, and Closer to You would never have been born. However, my eldest girl was a baby who cried and was fed up a lot of the time – and we spent much of her first year or two of life trying out new things and hoping to find a ‘solution’. As it turned out, the solution we needed was just time – my girl got happier with life the more she could do for herself. But along the way she wanted to spend a lot of time close to mum or dad and would often cry if we didn’t hold her, while we needed to get on with our everyday work.
So the research started again – this time buying and trying out many other types of carriers. I discovered a range of slings which I had never seen in real life before having babies – far more than the standard high street papoose type carrier. The world of wraps, mei tais, ring slings and more was opened up to me, and my daughter and I enjoyed trying them out. I was able to comfortably carry her with me as we traveled on public transport and got on with work around our home.
As we used different slings, I chatted about them to other parents and realised that many were available online but very few were to be found in local shops. A lot of the parents I spoke to wanted to see the slings for themselves before making a purchase. I was really keen that other parents could experience the benefits that slings were bringing in our lives, keeping babies close and cuddled while giving parents their hands back. The idea for Closer to You was to bring slings to parents in Edinburgh in person, with a range to try out, so that they could find a sling which worked for them and their baby.
Closer to You opened in 2007 doing just that and has now been running for nearly 5 years – with a small pause when my second and third daughters were born in 2008. Customers make shopping appointments and visit my home-based business, where they can see the full range, get demonstrations of all the slings, and try out all the kinds which appeal. I also do demonstrations at local baby shows and other venues.
I made the Closer to You website with the first idea of it being a virtual ‘shop front’ for my home based business – so that people in Edinburgh who were making appointments could see what they were getting before they booked a shopping appointment. Over time, the website has grown to be a bigger part of the business, and online customers use our popular Beginners Guide to Slings as a starting point for selecting a sling. I am always pleased to receive emails or phone calls from parents looking at the range of slings and narrowing down to the right sling for them and their baby.
Many of the parents I work with are looking for a sling to work really well for the early months and during the first year. Stretchy wraps are one of the most popular sling types sold by Closer to You, and Calin Bleu fleece wraps are really well suited to parenting in Edinburgh – the warm snuggly fabric is perfect year round, and the fact that water beads on the fleece and can be brushed away before soaking in is perfect for our climate of rain and more rain.I am as enthusiastic as ever about the benefits of slings, and I love working with parents to find the right carrier for them and their baby.
