We’re very excited to announce we have two new colours available to pre-order now, shipping on 30th April. We have added Ocean Teal and Mountain Grey to our collection of gauze cotton wraparound baby slings. Still excellent value at just £39 for medium, and £42 for long. These versatile lightweight wraps are perfect for babies from newborn to toddlers. Easy to use and small enough to carry around for when you need to carry your little one most. Great to use year round, and even better in warmer weather, these are sure to become classic favourites for years to come.
I knew from before my first daughter was born that I would need a sling – I do not drive a car and I hoped a sling would help us to get around easily on buses and trains. I love to do research, so I read everything I could find about slings and selected a stretchy wrap for carrying her. It was very comfortable, and if my eldest had been a different personality I would probably have stopped there, and Closer to You would never have been born. However, my eldest girl was a baby who cried and was fed up a lot of the time – and we spent much of her first year or two of life trying out new things and hoping to find a ‘solution’. As it turned out, the solution we needed was just time – my girl got happier with life the more she could do for herself. But along the way she wanted to spend a lot of time close to mum or dad and would often cry if we didn’t hold her, while we needed to get on with our everyday work.
So the research started again – this time buying and trying out many other types of carriers. I discovered a range of slings which I had never seen in real life before having babies – far more than the standard high street papoose type carrier. The world of wraps, mei tais, ring slings and more was opened up to me, and my daughter and I enjoyed trying them out. I was able to comfortably carry her with me as we traveled on public transport and got on with work around our home.
As we used different slings, I chatted about them to other parents and realised that many were available online but very few were to be found in local shops. A lot of the parents I spoke to wanted to see the slings for themselves before making a purchase. I was really keen that other parents could experience the benefits that slings were bringing in our lives, keeping babies close and cuddled while giving parents their hands back. The idea for Closer to You was to bring slings to parents in Edinburgh in person, with a range to try out, so that they could find a sling which worked for them and their baby.
